The UNO is a veteran organization in the sphere of international diplomacy. To instill in the students the knowledge of its functioning and to change their view from narrow nationalism to wide globalism, the concept of a Model United Nations has been ingrained in the student life over the course of the past few years. This concept is still in its inception stage in the city of Kanpur. Taking a leap forward, Seth AnandramJaipuria School organized the first student managed MUN in Kanpur. An intra school event, the Seth AnandramJaipuria Model United Nations (SAJMUN) turned out to be a colossal success. Around 250 delegates took part in this mega event organized in the school premises on August 8, 2015. The enthusiasm in the delegates seemed unfettered during the opening ceremony. They could hardly wait to get to their committees and showcase the arduous efforts they had put in. The opening ceremony witnessed the lighting of the lamp by venerable members of the faculty including Principal Sir followed by a magnificent dance performance on the Ganesh Vandana. Principal Sir declared the conference open in his eloquent speech.
The time had arrived. The delegates rushed to their committees, hardly able to control their excitement. Right from the first session, the Executive Board members of all committees, namely- United Nations Security Council (UNSC), United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), Historic Indian Parliament (HIP), Human Rights Council (HRC), Ministry of Magic (MoM), were awestruck at the innate MUNning talent in the amateur students. The delegates continued to amaze their Chairpersons, Vice-Chairpersons and Rapporteurs throughout the three sessions. They proved themselves to be worthy by means of their actions when they did everything from bloc formation to cohesive committee sessions, from monotonous speeches in the GSL to enthralling challenges and from novel Declarations to innovative Resolutions. The International Press, an inherent part of an MUN was at its best during the conference. From perfect photos to exemplary reports, they did it all with humongous eloquence.
The Closing Ceremony was eagerly awaited by one and all. The delegates could hardly wait to see the results of the immense efforts put in by them. Winning is an important aspect of every competition even though participation is paramount. The results were declared after a motivating speech by Ma’am ManishaDwivedi and a melodious performance by the Jaipurian singers. The conference concluded with a speech by the head of the Social Studies Department, Ma’am KavitaOjhaTewari. The success of the conference was adequately reflected on the mirthful visages of the participating delegates.
